If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly. This famous and generally misunderstood quip of GK Chesterton’s is the motto of the St. Louis Chesterton Society. We don’t know much about promotions, but since promoting Chesterton is worth doing, here goes.
We think you’ll enjoy and be inspired by the 30th Annual American Chesterton Society Conference August 4th, 5th, and 6th at the Sheraton Westport in St. Louis.
Update!Update! We are coming to the end of the possibility to pre-register. If you want to attend the conference, click here. On this page, you register separately for the conference itself and the banquet. If you want to see the schedule, click here.
G. K. Chesterton was the most joyful Catholic of the modern age. He was a prolific writer whose work ranges from crime stories to apologetics, from biographies to poetry, to some 11,000 newspaper essays, and more. He was the writer most responsible for the conversion of C. S. Lewis, and his impact on Christian culture continues to expand. Catholic educators will be especially interested in Chesterton: History Teachers, English Teachers, Social Studies Teachers, and (of course) Philosophy, Theology, and Religion Teachers will all find inspiration somewhere in Chesterton, very often on the same page.
The conference is led by Dale Ahlquist, president of the American Chesterton Society and host of The Apostle of Common Sense on EWTN. And at this year’s conference the Theater of the Word Incorporated presents a live performance of Chesterton’s hit play Magic that enjoyed a run in London’s West End and on Broadway. There’s much more, not least the hundreds of Chestertonians who will be attending with you.
The annual Chesterton Conference draws presenters and attendees from all over the world … including you! And we hope you bring someone with you. Chesterton’s joy and wonder are infectious, and perhaps the best part of a Chesterton Society Conference is the conversations you’ll have over meals, and the friendships you’ll strike up with Chestertonians. At the banquet Saturday evening, you’ll see that the American Chesterton Society really is a society, and we’re sure you’ll want to be a part of it even after the conference ends.
Please help us by passing this message along to colleagues, parents, and students, and mentioning the conference in your parish bulletins, casual conversations, and even your Facebook status. We also have printed material we can send to you so that you can spread the word about this exciting event. For more information, send us a message and we’ll be happy to get your questions answered.
